Dr. Mary Gospodarowicz

Dr. Mary Gospodarowicz is the Medical Director of the Cancer Program at The Princess Margaret and University Health Network and the Regional Vice President of Cancer Care Ontario. She is also Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Toronto and Chief of the Radiation Medicine Program at The Princess Margaret.
She received her MD degree from the University of Toronto and holds specialty certifications in internal medicine, medical oncology and radiation oncology. She is an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in the United Kingdom, an honorary member of the European Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ESTRO), and a past president of the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncologists.
She is engaged in active clinical practice of radiation oncology treating patients with malignant lymphomas and genitourinary cancers. Her research interests include clinical trials evaluating the role of radiation therapy in lymphomas, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and testis cancer. She has authored over 250 peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, and letters. Currently, her major interest is in developing and implementing image-guided precision radiotherapy. With long standing involvement in late effects research, she has an interest in survivorship clinical programs and research. In addition, she has a major interest in cancer staging and prognostic factors.
She has served in the past as Chair of the National Cancer Institute of Canada Clinical Trials Group Genitourinary Committee and currently serves as member of NCIC CTG Clinical Trials Committee. In addition, she completed terms on the GU Concept Panel and Sub-Committee H of the National Cancer Institute and continues to serve as reviewer for the Cancer Therapy and Evaluation Program of NCI US. She is also a past Chair of the Canadian Committee on Cancer Staging and currently chairs the Task Force on Prognostic Factors for the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) TNM Committee. Currently, she also chairs the UICC Task Force on Prognostic Factors. In the past 10 years she has co-edited three books on Prognostic Factors in Cancer, the newest published for the 2006 UICC World Cancer Congress. She has initiated programs through the UICC to actively promote e-initiatives to raise the standard of cancer care worldwide.
Mary Gospodarowicz has served on various provincial, national and international committees. Having served as member of the Executive Committee of UICC, she has been elected to the UICC Board of Directors of UICC and serves as UICC Treasurer. UICC is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to the global control of cancer. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Extranodal Lymphoma Study Group, the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Lymphoma Foundation of Canada, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology International Affairs Committee. |
